"W.R.E.
Thunder 3" System:
The "W.R.E. Thunder 3"
system is the latest and most cost effective solution for the on-line inspection
of alloy wheels. It addresses the handling problems experienced with industrial
vehicle wheels at high production rates.
Extreme difficulty usually is
experienced in manoeuvring the large and heavy wheels and this usually requires
the use of highly motorised mechanisms in conjuction with strong and heavy-duty
mechanical plants. For this reason "W.R.E. Thunder 3" is very
innovative as it allows the wheel to rotate on its own vertical axis. The
inspection positions are achieved by the movement of the complete X-ray system.
The X-ray tube is moved on a 2 axes manipulator and the image intensifier is
moved on a 3 axes manipulator.
This solution not only allows
the user to have the ability to inspect wheels at both high productiviy rate and
performance but as well to achieve this by using a much more compact and space
saving piece of equipment. With this system the only "non-productive"
time during the cycle of inspection is the translation time of the wheel on the
belt inside the X-ray shielded cabinet thus making it a very cost effective and
time saving inspection device.

Specifications:
The radiation protection cabinet has a relatively small "footprint"
of only 1550 x 1550 x H 2180 mm. Test samples up to a size of 700 x 1200 mm and
a weight of up to 80 kg can be loaded. X-ray image intensifier and X-ray source
(tube) can be handled independently due to the fact that no C-arm is used. This
solution allows a significant increase in handling speed, whilst at the same
time system weight and vibration is reduced.
Control and programming of the system is affected by a touch-screen monitor
and a "push-button" control panel with 4 additional
operator-programmable function keys. An image enhancement system is already
included.
